Summer Solstice

Summer Solstice

The moment had come
as the sun broke the night
An orange sphere rising
The first of summer light

They danced in the circle
Flowers woven in their hair
Among the ancient stones
In each hand a burning flare

Kneeling at earth’s altar
Chanting a prayer in rhyme
Celebrating Midsummer
Marking the passage of time

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

  1. Hello Christine, I love your quatrain having to do with the vernal equinox (solistice) as we celebrate the return of the sun and the return of the greening and life. I love the rhythm and rhyme of your piece and how it brings the ritual close.

  2. Hello, would it be possible to use this poem in a service at our Unitarian chapel this Friday? Full credit will be given of course. All warmest, Elizabeth.
