Mating Dance – Poem of the Month – January, 2022

Mating Dance

A gentle touch
as if a feather
slowly stroking skin
Sending an uncontrollable
shiver down the spine
Dark eyes
holding a gaze longer
than is comfortable
Alluring, anticipating
Powerful, charismatic
The mating dance
of two exotic birds?
Is the performance enough?
Maybe, maybe not

    1. Thanks Grace. I recently watched a fabulous Netflix program on the courting rituals of exotic birds in New Guinea. It was amazing, and so entertaining! ☺️💕

  1. Vivid, intrically described; one can sense the languid bird, beautifully presented……and then the ending! Brilliant! Of course this applies to us all, one way or another – stunned by the quality…and philosophy…of this poetry..

    1. Yes as someone pointed out about the peacock too. The flashy part is at the front and not much on the behind! Lol 🤣
