Blood On Our Hands

Blood On Our Hands

The smooth sands of a silent desert
now a windstorm of grit burrowing
into every orifice
Blinding and scratching eyes
Tasting and choking on the bitterness
of unannounced fury

The still waters of windless waves
become a raging, angry ocean
Swallowing the body whole
and regurgitating denialism
with each turbulent flow
of rampant wrath

A forest, green and succulent
succumbing to heated, fiery ire
Crackling coniferous and deciduous woodland
Consuming beauty in a violent blaze
The tears of this earth become
blood on our hands

  1. Another strong write from you Christine… I especially liked your close:

“The tears of this earth become

    blood on our hands”

    Great lines…

  2. This is incredibly hard-hitting and poignant, Christine. If only mankind would come to its senses .. I resonate with; “A forest, green and succulent succumbing to heated, fiery ire.” Sigh..

    1. Thank you dear Sanaa. It actually started as a metaphor when I began with the idea but then I saw the fires in the UK and across Europe and I knew it had to be about Nature’s plight 😢

  3. A scathing write on human’s dereliction of duty to earth. These lines for me are particularly powerful”
    “regurgitating denialism
    with each turbulent flow

    1. Thanks Lillian. Sadly, not a popular poem but it came poring out of me so it needed to be written, at least ☺️💕

  4. Yes. This is the truth. And still so many, especially global leaders, are in denial. It is hard to fathom the inaction.

    1. Yes I agree Sherry. Surely seeing what is happening in Europe right now should wake up more people. Europe has always been way ahead of us in the US with EVs, Wind Energy, Recycling and so on. Yet they still cannot escape Nature’s wrath. I think there is little hope at this point for future generations 😢

    2. Nature cries out in this powerful write. This made me pause…. “regurgitating denialism” and the last line stings.. as it should.
