A Lighter Shade of Dark

A Lighter Shade of Dark

Thoughts swirling around in my head
Constantly in motion, confusing
Making sense and then senseless
Unable to control their movement
Reminiscent of the oscillating fan
hanging from the ceiling
I stare at it listening to the gentle hum
and the clinking of the pull
caught in its own draught
Disoriented by my own
uncontrollable emotions

I watch the rotations above me
allowing them to calm my mind
Mesmerized by the gyration
and feeling my heartbeat slowing
My eyelids flutter in silken silence
to the rhythmic, gentle turning
Unaware of time passing
Becoming sober in thought
and centered of spirit
My outlook had become
a lighter shade of dark
