Catch A Falling Star

Your fall from the stars
as surprising as an apple dropping from a tree
Unexpected, startling
A gift from nowhere
A present to savor
Will the apple stay fresh for a while
Or was it bruised by its fall?
I look beneath the skin to discover
a fresh, sweet surprise
bringing a smile to my face
I like what I see
This lucky find
will continue to ripen
No need to devour it
all at once
Time to enjoy its beauty
Taste its lusciousness
and relish the organic maturation
Your fall from the stars truly
Serendipitous
and a gift from the Gods

Mish is hosting Open Link Night at D’Verse Poets. I have chosen to go with one of her mini prompts and write about the life of a fruit as a metaphor for a relationship.

  1. I love the simile in the opening lines, Christine, and the way it developed into an extended metaphor. Apples may be a simple fruit to some, but they have such significance, and are a perfect way to pay tribute to a relationship.
