Winner Takes All

Your annoyance at my playfulness
Stopped me in my tracks
Your anger of my contentment
Left me confused
You sabotaged my joie de vivre
Robbing me of happiness
You imprisoned me in isolation
Alienating me from those I loved
Your words assaulted me
Leaving me beaten

In your wicked game of selfishness
You only played by your rules
You assumed I had none.
So in the end, I was the victor
You did not win my soul.
And you therefore could not take
My laughter
My prize is that when I might think of you
I laugh
And laugh my way back to happiness

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine
