Ever-changing

Late afternoon clouds
tinged with
golden threads
of hidden sun
Silhouettes of
Whooping Cranes taking flight
Shadows elongated
into distorted shapes
Peace found in
images and sounds

Summer’s kindness
stroking, comforting
Healing
the soul gently
before the colors
of fall are
dangled delightfully
before eyes
wide in wonder
Captivating

Grey skies become
A backdrop for
burnt umber
and yellow ochre leaves
The inevitable whipping,
cold autumn winds
Almost unnoticed
as once again we are fooled
by the beauty
of a season’s transition

  1. Your autumn poem glows, Christie. I love the ‘golden threads of hidden sun’ and the painterly lines:

    ‘Grey skies become
    a backdrop for
    burnt umber
    and yellow ochre leaves’.

  2. Autumn is nature’s stealth weapon, lulling us by its beauty and then suddenly unleashing winter. Year after year we are fooled willingly. You captured the beauty so well, Christine. I love your take. ❤️
