Engraved on the Heart

Words of love spoken
will be remembered
long after they have left
the lips 
and will be engraved 
on the heart

Words of spite angrily delivered
will be chiseled much deeper
never to be forgotten 
Time will not soften
the edges easily
If ever

1. This one takes me back to the misconception that “Sticks and Stones… But words will never hurt me!” This is so not true. Words do cut deeply and last forever!

5. I think words bruise deeper than physical violence, because we are built to forget physical pain. You’ve captured that so well in your quadrille Christine.
