A Fool’s Fool

Am I still that fool
The young inexperienced fool
Taken advantage of by life
In all its cruelty
Not knowing there was such a thing
As unrequited love

Am I maybe now an older fool
Who shared her heart and soul
With another until they grew tired
Letting familiarity breed contempt
While they searched elsewhere
For a different love

Perhaps now I am nobody’s fool
No longer giving my heart so easily
Holding back, taking time to consider
who might deserve such a gift
This action was not borne from cynicism
But from the wisdom of love’s torture

    1. Yes, traumatic memories can prevent moving on in a timely manner. We are never prepared so it makes sense to take charge and make some ground rules for the next time 😳🫤

  1. The arrow of Eros is love’s delicious torture. The heart that results is what we make of its wonders and woundings through a life. Breaking is part of the whole-making — but the fool in me is ever-fixated on the promise of a sunny sky stepping on the banana peel off the cliff. Some things never change … To be wise in one’s tortures, that’s a fullness …

    1. Thanks so much Jim. It’s a shame when some of us have to go through a whole lifetime to get to the same place that many others get to years before. Oh well, there’s another lifetime after this one surely!!! lol

  2. This is deeply poignant, Christine! I believe we have all been there .. it doesn’t necessarily make us a fool rather it shows the purity of heart. We trust easily because we tend to see the good in people.

What they sow they shall reap .. for now, we are wiser ❤️❤️
