The Family Stone

The Family Stone

Mother and father
Side by side
Watching the ship
Slowly disappear
Oh how they cried

Young son looking on
Not yet understanding
The pain they endured
Saying goodbye is hard
When you are left standing

The family dog
Oblivious to it all
Sits patiently by
his young master
Waiting for his call

Undoubtedly they will
be here again one day
When son number two
Grows up to be a man
And he too will sail a way

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

  1. Thank you for sharing this. You captured many truths of life from one generation to the other. Especially enjoyed how children do not yet understand.
