My Side of You

My side of you

One day, just once
I want you to be
on my side of you

Maybe then you
would understand
and have a clue

What it is like
to hear what you say
and feel what you do

To shield the arrows
of words that
always ensue

You would stand
in my shoes
and perhaps get a sense

of how I feel
when you get a laugh
at my expense

To come down
from your castle
in the air

Be at my level
just for a moment
and begin to care

Perhaps then
you would see
what is precious

Something to treasure
and protect
and not contentious

One day, just once
I want you to be
on my side of you

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

  1. Beautifully written and so true. We need to try and practice this ourselves everyday. So even if others can’t do that, things will be a little bit easier because we will be “on their side of us”. Certainly not always easy, but possible. Thank you for sharing! And I love the title btw 🙂

    1. Thank you Eduardo, you’re very kind. I always do my best to put myself in someone else’s shoes and would love it if more people did the same. It would be a kinder world 💕🙂

      1. It would be, for sure. It’s hard when someone can’t understand you, no matter how hard you try to explain your situation. It feels bad and it can hurt. When that happens, it makes me remember that I must not be like that, because I don’t want to make those who I love feel that bad. So I try to make sure I don’t do the same. It’s a good reminder, a double edged sword. My pleasure, thank you for another beautiful post. Let’s keep improving everyday.
