Get Away

Get Away

She became the tired recipient
of his irrational behavior
He’s up, then he’s down
A relationship doomed to failure

Tolerance wearing thin
Her desire to please had waned
She had to get away
and no longer be restrained

Enough is enough
Her dedication there no longer
What won’t kill you
makes you stronger

Not wanting to drink poison
for him this day
She swore to leave
and him she would betray

A better version could be a house you rent and get comfortable in for a long time. But …

    1. Yes I do think you have point. It certainly seems that way Re-enacts. I’m always sad to see the way women are continued to be treated, as if they are property. What century are we in?

  2. i think your first line says it so well and sets the tome of the poem, the tiredness, of always being available, when his needs have to be met not hers, that’s the irrational behavior i detest – really taking someone for granted – a very heartfelt poem Christine

    1. We are the born pleasers aren’t we? I’m not like it so much any more but it’s still out there and many are trapped. Thank you for reading Punam 😊💕
