The Dog and the Butterfly

The Dog and the Butterfly

Oh how high he jumped
Into the sky
Excited and free
He felt like he could fly
Wherever you go
I will follow you, he said with a sigh
She fluttered momentarily
The dog and the butterfly

Up and over, in and out
Making him dizzy of his eyes
She teased him relentlessly
He wasn’t such a tough guy
A symbiotic relationship
He did run and was spry
She could hover out of reach
The dog and the butterfly

They would chase each other
Her love he did vie
She was lost without him
And he knew why
Happy together
They would never say goodbye
Opposites attract
The dog and the butterfly

  1. This is charming and the repetition works so well! Sorry you missed the linking; perhaps you might want to post it for Open Link Night on Thursday 🙂
(The new WP editor is a bit of a challenge, isn’t it?)

  4. Just looking at the photo accompanying this poem, brought a smile. As did your poem, Christine, picturing the dog jumping about, to capture the elusive butterfly. Nothing more shout summertime, then this poem, as the northern hemisphere is approaching the winter solstice. The darkest day of the year, light-wise..Thank you, for this ray of sunshine.

  5. For me, the dog and the butterfly, represent two different souls working on a relationship and friendship, overlooking differences, and working on things that make them happy.

Thanks for sharing and wishing you Happy Holidays !

    1. Exactly Grace. Working on it and rejoicing in the differences rather than finding fault.
      Happy Holidays to you too!
P.S. My dog always chases butterflies! and her name is Grace 🙂

    1. Thank you so much Lona. I really love this song. I think of it everyday when I walk my dog and she jumps at a butterfly ❤️
