Mementos

Mementos

They are saved in a box
Hidden from view
They come out now and again
when I am feeling blue
Your letters from long ago
and photographs of old
each has a memory
and a story to be told

Promise of something
Hopes for everything
Goals to accomplish
Maybe a wedding ring
But our love was too weak
and you began to stray
Influenced by an enmity
I knew you wouldn’t stay

Jealousy and loathing
Slowly everything was destroyed
Disharmony and resentment
The end we could no longer avoid
The letters and photos
Just mementos of a time gone by
Forgotten and ignored
They no longer gratify

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine
