Monotony

Monotony

Lackluster days
and insignificant nights
A respite from monotony
In the disconsolate lights

No rest for the wicked
another dismal chore
never a variance
identical to the one before

Expecting the worse
Hoping for the best
No exception to this rule
You can guess the rest

A lonely pointless life
Sad as sad can be
Trapped on the hamster wheel
Running, running to be free

Finding no way out
of a miserable existence
Walking barefoot
on this path of passive resistance

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine
