How Did I Get Here?

How Did I Get Here?

It was not meant
to be like this
Searching a lifetime
to be with you
What did I miss?

We had both fallen
in the past
Stumbling in flaky blind love
Mistaken but
finding each other at last

Everything else
was a dress rehearsal
For what was to be
our rhapsody
Never expecting a reversal

We learned our lessons well
or so I thought
only to be derailed
A love and life casualty
and all the pain it brought

How did I get here
in this too familiar place?
Alone and heartbroken
back again
at the start of the race

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

  1. The start of the race again
For aching bones, it’s a strain
Too many pieces down the drain
I don’t think there’ll be more warm rain

      1. Oh goodness, that’s so hard–truly I know: three weeks ago I thought I’d finally gotten the depression under control…returned with a vengeance. BUT, I trust God for a turnaround 🙂 ❤

  2. I’m so happy it resonated with you. Relationships are so complex and the older we get the harder they become, it seems. Thank you Beckie 😔💕
