Season End
Broken shadows across the cracked ground Sun slipping lower in the sky as each day does come and go Shorter days, longer nights until equinox Summer lets go for Autumn to be here Christine Bolton - Poetry for Healing © Laura is hosting D'Verse Poets tonight and has prompted us with September and the changing of seasons. There are two prompts offered. This one is a Nonet. For those who like a syllabic challenge, I invite you to write a NONET – a nine line poem that begins with 9 syllables, descending line by line to 1 syllable. Select ONE of these 9 syllable lines as your opener (or more if you wish to write several nonets) 1. It seems as though you are still summer (cite Merwin) 2. Broken shadows across the cracked ground (cite Merwin) 3. The earthed lightning of a flock of swans (cite Heaney) 4. One side is wild with foam and glitter (cite Heaney) I chose #2 Image by Pexels from Pixabay

The fall equinox arrives next week on the 22nd. Summer has until then to shine her light.

Yes, I wish she didn’t have to go so soon 😕 Thanks for reading Truedessa ☺️💕

Thanks Truedessa for reminding me that it is an equinox, not a solstice, this time. I always get them turned around 😕 💕

“Shorter days, longer nights” – fits the shape of the Nonet too.

“Sun slipping lower in the sky” is a good followup to the opening line. I picture the lower sun casting longer misshapen shadows. I wanted to include that in my nonet, but I couldn’t figure out how to do so. But here, you’ve done that just by hinting at it. 🙂

Thank you Ken. I just read yours and it was stunning! You needn’t have worried about the sun lowering in the sky. It was perfect ☺️

Summer fun was too short this year. Summer is passing the torch to Autumn’s beauty. Nice work Christine.

Yes it was like we were robbed this year of our fun, but at least we stayed healthy ☺️

I find the loss of daylight so demanding… especially since I know how dark it will be in December.
