The Exchange
Summer becomes weary and is preparing for the handover Leaving her blooms to dry out Too exhausted to carry on Exchanging her sunshine and its warmth of gold rays and refreshing breezes for the cooler winds of Autumn and brass colored foliage on trees Christine Bolton - Poetry for Healing ©
Laura is hosting D'Verse Poets tonight and has prompted us with September and the changing of seasons. There are two prompts offered. This one is a 9 Line Poem. Write NINE-LINE VERSE(S), taking ONE of the following lines so that each consecutive word becomes the start of the next line of your poem. Keep the word order and repeat the pattern for more verses. 1. Those/ pale /flowers /might /still /have/ time/ to /fruit (Borowicz) 2. Summer/ is /leaving/ too/ exchanging/ its/ gold/ for brass (Dorothy Lawrenson) 3. West/ mountains/ erased/ with/ azure/ into/ Spring/cool/ nights (Murray) For example: Those xx pale xx flowers xx might xxx etc etc I chose #2 by Dorothy Lawrenson “September”
Love this!

glad you had time for a second go at the challenge with the Lawrenson line cleverly woven
“leaving her blooms to dry out
Too exhausted to carry on”
that’s just how this seasonal change feels!

“preparing for the handover” is apt. Like a relay runner, having completed her role, handing off to the next, fresh runner.

Actually I almost used “passing the baton” because i5 reminds me of a 4×400 meters relay. ☺️

Ha! I actually ran the quarter-mile leg of a medley relay back in high school. (That certainly should date me – it was before US schools adapted metric for track.) I still have the baton, on which I painted the names of the relay members with our school record time.

I was on the relay team too in HS and we were county champs! Lol. I ran the third leg and remember passing to this girl who could run like the wind. She was amazing. I loved the relay and being part of a team event. 🙂

My comment of passing the torch works better for this piece. Your visual of Summer passing is on point Christine.
