Unheard
My words do not reach you anymore They hang heavy in the air, waiting to be heard Full of love, passion, anger, questioning But your ears are closed to them They fall to the ground unanswered As is always the way You, too busy speaking your own truths to care about my thoughts and dreams I die a little death each time this happens Over time parts of me become numb Where the life once used to be Benign stumps from which nothing will grow Neglected like a plant trying to thrive in a closet No sunshine to nurture life or water to quench its thirst When the desire to speak and be heard is eventually lost Then that is when you will hear me no more The only sound to be heard will be you Talking to the wind Copyright © 2021 Christine Bolton - Poetry for Healing All Rights Reserved Mish is hosting Open Link Night at D'Verse Poets tonight

Words do fall on deaf ears
Thoughts do melt into tears.
“Who Hears Me”
My ears are funnels
But I do not want to hear
The voices
My lips do part
But I do not speak
The words
My knees do bend
But I cannot sit
While I can still stand
My eyes are open
But I do not want to see
My shadow falling

A poignant poem, Christine. I love these lines:
‘Neglected like a plant trying to thrive in a closet
No sunshine to nurture life or water to quench its thirst
When the desire to speak and be heard is eventually lost
Then that is when you will hear me no more’.

I hear such sadness in this. How sad it is when when the voice gives way to despair after years of feeling unheard.

Let them talk to the wind. I wish more would have the courage to move forward and leave those who stunt their existence. This is a powerful piece. The image of “Benign stumps from which nothing will grow” is so fitting. Nurturing is as important as air to breathe.

How sad when this happens. I believe this is due to misunderstanding and not being able to communicate well with each other. This part stood out for me:
I die a little death each time this happens
Over time parts of me become numb

It could be God Himself speaking these words to this generation. We all like to speak our own truths, rather than the truth. I think what defines a poet is our ability to tap into truth, or rather “Word”. To draw from truth and make it known is a poet’s job. And, if we do continue speaking our own words, one day God’s going to stop answering, and give up the world to its devices.

Thank you for visiting. I think the most important thing is that we speak our own truth first. ☺️

So I interpreted it as a poem about listening. The object being that if he doesn’t listen, “When the desire to speak and be heard is eventually lost
Then that is when you will hear me no more
The only sound to be heard will be you”
Which is a truth we all need to understand. We need to listen more.

P.S.
And nobody likes to listen. This reminds me of “American Pie”. The day Music Dies is Satan’s day. And a part of music is poetry. The desire to listen, when that dies, that’s when it’s time to walk away.
