Feeling Blue

Feeling Blue

Feeling Blue
Turquoise sea and azure sky
Shades of nature's blue
Navy clouds
as the sun sinks low
and night brings its hue

Cornflowers and Peacocks
Kingfishers too
Blueberries and blue corn
Hyacinth Macaws
Hydrangeas kissed with dew

Blue moon in the sky
We both see the same view
Across the miles
Blue is my mood
because I cannot see you

Sarah is hosting D'Verse Poets tonight and has prompted us
to write a poem about "Blue". Blue is my favorite color!
I wrote this poem in 2019 in response to a similar prompt
from OctPoWriMo. I hope you like it.

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

  1. “Navy clouds
    as the sun sinks low
and night brings its hue” YES YES YES! The perfect description for what I see sometimes in Provincetown, on the tip of Cape Cod, as the night sky takes over. I’ve never thought of calling them navy….but YES!
    I enjoyed this very much.

    1. Oh Lillian thanks so much ☺️ Yes they are indeed Navy. I live on the coast too so maybe that’s why. I’m happy you enjoyed it.

  3. Blue is truly a poet’s colour, the sound of the word, and its many rhymes. I love how you’ve captured so many different shades, Christine, especially the ‘navy clouds as the sun sinks low’ and the ‘hydrangeas kissed with dew’.

  4. I can identify with the feeling of blues here, so strongly evoked through your words. The sea both separates and connects us!
