Medicine For The Soul
A wafer-thin moon appears in the late afternoon sky Pale as milk and semi-transparent Mirroring my mood of this day Having fallen by the wayside of everyday life Feeling as fragile as a crumbling cracker being spread with ice cold butter Jarred by the day’s impossible round of bare-knuckle punches Rejected, insignificant Weary from the extraordinary efforts I managed to perform without regard or thanks Taking a deep breath I stare at the simple beauty before my eyes The transformation from a gossamer moon to a thick cheesy ball smiling back at me I sense my equilibrium being restored as my body drinks the medicine for my soul Copyright © 2021 Christine Bolton - Poetry for Healing All Rights Reserved Victoria C. Soliloquy is a form of speech spoken aloud by a character but addressed to no one except his or her self. The purpose of the soliloquy is to allow the audience to get a glimpse of the character’s inner thoughts and feelings while keeping them hidden from the other characters. The soliloquy differs from a monologue in that the latter is spoken so that other characters may be made privy to the speaker’s point of view. A soliloquy can express thoughts, emotions, intentions, plans and desires. It can influence the unfolding of the plot and can create irony. Image - Pixabay

Christine, this spoke to me, especially the part about your efforts going unnoticed, as is so much of our daily lives. I enjoyed the role the moon played in your self-reflection and the metaphor of the crumbling cracker.

Thank you Victoria. Your prompt was timely from as I had played around with this poem for a couple of days, so thank you again! ☺️💕

I enjoyed the transformative place that the moon represents – at once a simple thing, a reminder of our own flat character, paper-thin and stained, but also beautiful, a wholesome half of the gentle equilibrium of the day. All in all, this was a refreshing experience – I relished it, found it delightful, and I look forward to more.

Oh, I really like this! I love the vivid descriptions of your day–and I could feel the weight of it, the rejections, the thankless work, even as the moon transformed, and you with it. Nature can definitely be “medicine for the soul.”

I can really feel the pain, but more hopefully, I’m also relieved the moon was able to provide some healing!

The pale moon against a daylight sky is special… so often we fail to notice it, just like we fail to see the details of ourselved.

Yes it is almost insignificant at that time but still beautiful and looking quite delicate ☺️
