Living Death
This pain of mine cannot be denied My anger chooses not to bargain As I sink into the lows of depression I cling hopelessly to the habits formed by your dysfunction My crippled heart beats to the sound of a broken drum Acceptance is my demise because each day I die a little death Copyright © 2022 Christine Bolton - Poetry for Healing All Rights Reserved Lisa is hosting Tuesday Poetics at D'Verse and has prompted us with the book On Death and Dying by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, M.D. In her book she says the five stages of grief are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. We can choose one or more of the stages in our poem.
You’ve captured the feeling so well Christine.

Thanks Punam. There are all kinds of ‘living deaths’. We don’t always see them or know about them, do we? Your incredible poem opened the eyes of many I’m sure 😢

Your pain is very real! Anger over loss is not an easy thing to displace. It is like an unwelcomed friend who drops in all to often! Well done!

Christine, I’m bowled over by the raw emotion you share in your poem. The person who is trapped in a living death is in perhaps the most profoundly sad place of all 😦

Thank you Lisa. I just followed your suggestion of maybe using more than one stage in our poem and it came together. ☺️💕

“because each day I die a little death”
I get it. It’s tragic how some make it out of this routine… and some don’t.

Yes Dan, so true. Easy for some to escape, others not so much.

Well….you went straight and narrow there…tragic to read….very difficult….to the last crushing conclusion….

Oh dear, I’m sorry it was so tragic. I didn’t know what to write really so I included all the stages rather than just one. I thought of a person trapped in a difficult relationship.
