Emotional Bonds

The emotional bonds that tied me to you
Became chains around my ankles
Interdependence
Fused into possession and ownership
Compartmentalized
Brought out to decorate
an ugliness unimaginable in another
A purpose served and relegated to the shadows
Faceless, nameless, useless
That you might shine
Until the cracks exposed narcissism
and others saw behind the mask
becoming weary of the looping spectacle of you
Played over and over
A pathetic selfish man
Self-absorbed, self-indulgent
And as you wallowed in self-pity
I escaped your prison

    1. Thanks VJ. I am sorry you can relate. Although this is in my past, it still hangs there like a big fat warning sign. These people prey on the kindness of others and before you know it, you have become invisible. I hope it’s a warning to others. 🙏

  1. I love poetry and I can translate poetry from American English into Brazilian Portuguese. My website is an American English to Brazilian Portuguese collocation dictionary and it is designed to help people in the translation of texts and books. Your posts are amazing.
