Morning Commute
My journey each day
weaves my neighborhood
I choose to run
So my health is good
Home is Florida
Plenty of heat
It’s The Sunshine State
It warms the feet
Each street I run
An abundance of flowers
Elegant lawns
Summer showers
As I travel the road
The palms are swaying
Colorful houses along the water
And boats are sailing
Turn left at the end
Heading for the bridge to the key
Today it is opening
For a tall mast in the sea
Fisherman trying their luck
With bait of shrimp
Careful navigating around
So I don’t end up with a gimp
On the other side is
a small park to rest
on a welcome bench
I can sit and feel blessed
Out on the marker posts
I see the Cormorants
Wings outstretched
Drying from the currents
Some kayakers pass by
Moving seamlessly
A pelican sunning himself
On the dock peaceably
After a short rest
Its time to head home
I’ll go back a different way
A great way to roam

Sweet, it is great to hear about your day. Your neighborhood sounds lovely. Like a vacation home. The poem is nicely woven, I enjoyed the honoring of your day.

i feel the gratefulness in your poem, of a life that is rich because you choose to see all the beauty that surrounds you, every single detail you don’t miss. and having another route home, symbolic to me that no matter how far you roam you will find home once again – your poems always have a special meaning

Gina the was so nice of you. I do take a lot of things in when I’m in nature. I particularly love flowers and birds. I have to run at the beach a little more but we had terrible Red Tide this year and it was hard to breathe 😔

we have the good and the not so good in nature, that must have not been very pleasant on your runs. running by the beach is so exhilarating!

Last time I lived there was 35 years ago but I did visit The Villages in March of this year but that is more inland. Last residence was Clearwater

The rhythm of the poem makes it seem as if I’m running along beside you, Christine! I especially love the glimpse of cormorants on marker posts, ‘Wings outstretched / Drying from the currents’ and the ‘pelican sunning himself’.

This sounds like a paradise… I bicycle to work every day, but no palmtrees or cormorants… not it’s dark and often rainy.
