Penance

Penance

lightly dust
the surface
of my skin
with remnants
from the
bottom of
the rusty tin

may it irritate
and burn
so I might feel
some of the
hurt that does
not heal

scratch me
and scar me
with welts bloodied
reminders
remaining
of love sullied

patterns intricately
woven in cries
of pain
virtual reminders
of love that left
but a stain

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

  1. the reference of something just skin deep changes dramatically with your exploration here Christine. skin is sensitive to every stimulus, words included – really love this sensitive writing
