Impetuous

Impetuous

The melodious sound
of instruments
broke the still night air
A soft rhythmic beat
appealing and seducing
daring to share

Like a moth to a flame
it lured and cajoled
with musical ingenuity
Lacking self-control
It was easy to be tempted
Succumbing to promiscuity

Heart racing
and adrenalin flowing
Caution thrown to the wind
The course uncharted
and on this whim
all hopes were pinned

I have been writing poetry since I was a child and it has helped in the good times and bad times. I am always looking within to find the answers to life's problems and to write thought-provoking poetry and prose. Thanks for checking it out. Christine

  1. I agree that the whole poem sets up a lovely frame for that exquisite Volta- all hopes are pinned. I just love how wonderfully human that is, it takes the sorrow and the judgement out of it. I think that in human beings even unwise or impetuous choices have a basis in hope, and that is a beautiful thing- providing a basis – as your site title proclaims – FOR HEALING. This reminds me in some ways of the last surprise line of Thrash Unreal by Against Me!

    1. Thank you Lona! I found your message in SPAM 😔. Yes! There is always hope and I hope we are never too cynical to believe that. I liked the song you shared as it was reminiscent of what I was writing about. Thank you for sharing that with me. 🙂💕

  3. You have evoked the magic of music in this poem, Christine – it’s been years since I last got up to dance but your words had me moving my promiscuous feet!
