Oh my…..I was riding with you in the poem …. thinking Whew! I will need a cold shower at the end of this…..and then your words provided it! “Perpetual resentment” like a cold washcloth slapped on the face at the end of this passionate scene.

This is excellent Christine. Perhaps the reason young love is so beautiful rests with the fact that not enough time has elapsed to build that resentment.
