Me

Me

I am wild
and boisterous
Fearless and fierce
I am me

I am adventurous
and curious
Gutsy and brave
I am me

I tow the line
and follow instructions
Respectful and dutiful
I am me

I am kind
and considerate
Thoughtful and benevolent
I am me

I care
and I love
Gentle and sweet
I am me

I write
and I create
Questioning and truthful
I am me

I argue
and fight
Cry and scream
I am me

I cause pain
and offend
Angry and indignant
I am human

years ago.

  1. ha. if i have not offended someone today, I am probably not human. our reckless independence tends to step all over each other. I like the repetition of the end line and the abrupt change in the last because it makes it stand out. i like the various layers of personality throughout each stanza, some contrasting because we can. knowing ourselves, who we are, and perhaps who we are not, is very important.

    1. Thank you Brian. I do know that what I have written applies to just about everyone. There is goodness in all of us but we are only human ☺️

  2. Powerful, beautiful, and most of all, honest. As Brian said, are we truly human if we do not err? We are complex, we can love, we can hate, we can be nice too. Such an evocatively beautiful piece that connects to the heart of the readers. Amazing, impactful writing. There is so much to this poem, I really enjoyed reading it.

    1. Thank you so much Lucy. 🥰 Yes we are all basically good but flawed varying in degree. If we cannot see ourselves as we truly are then we are sociopaths! 😳

  3. That’s the problem with being asleep in the UK while poets in other parts of the world are awake – they say the things I would like to say before me! I agree with Glenn about the twist at the end and the interesting rhyme schemes, and with Brian, that the repetition of the end line and the abrupt change in the last it makes it stand out. I also like the various layers of personality. Humans are multi-faceted, and they make mistakes. Sadly, not all humans are happy to admit that.

    1. You know Gina, I wrote this in response to a Go Dog Go post you hosted a couple of years ago. You wanted to know your readers better and asked them to write about themselves. This was mine 🙂
