Rite of Passage

Dusty pink taffeta sky
lays in folds against
a blue-grey background
of twilight
The raft of northern ducks
silhouetted and bobbing
on a pewter lake mirroring
the last of the day’s offering
A rising moon chases the sun
from view as darkness descends
Sounds fall silent when the day
gives way to night and
and the handover is complete

  1. I am embarrassed to admit that I did not know what “taffeta” is… thank you for teaching me!

Your poem held me from start to finish. Lovely, Christine!

    1. Thank you. I was actually looking at my sky that night when the words came but didn’t get the best photo. I was fortunate to find one that was close ☺️
