To Hell With You Janus
Janus you are two-faced A god who wants it both ways Pedantic and limiting One face looking back, your rush for us to end a year One face looking forward, you fill us with expectations Promising us all that is new is, as always, deceitful This month named for you has come to be the darkest of my life Your wicked vendetta year after year has robbed me of a parent, and given my husband to another. You cursed a loved one with brain tumors and now you destroy another marriage. Casting your long shadows on my life has ended I return this month to you For I do not see you anymore I do not know you I never knew you There is no end or beginning No old or new It just is Copyright © 2021 Christine Bolton - Poetry for Healing All Rights Reserved Sanaa, from A Dash of Sunny, is hosting Open Link Night at D'verse Poets Pub tonight. Goodness me Christine, has Janus really taken things from you over time and left nothing in return? Loved the words that conveyed feelings. Thanks for joining in 🙂

Yes, it really has. As years go by it has become a thing, a foreboding, if you like. It made me wish I could hibernate so I wouldn’t have to put up with it! I can’t even complain ab out the weather as I live in SW Florida. January weather is quite pleasant. ☺️

Sure makes Christmas suck I guess. All I have seen from the US is snow images and tales. SW Florida sounds a bit like here on the North Coast of NSW Aust 🙂

A powerful poem of rage and resignation…. Very well done… Keep your fire going… we need it in this time. Sorry for all your Janus losses!

Thanks Dwight. Not to worry, I have a very Pollyanna attitude towards most things. I just hate January. However this year I must admit the 20th of January was a spectacular day!!! I know you know what I mean ☺️

You are so sweet my dear friend. I’m not upset or anything. It’s just January. Do you know how some people can be when the weather is dark and gray and they have trouble dealing with things? Well that’s how it is in January for me. Just lots of sad memories of things that happened in January over the years. Please don’t worry about me. I’m my usual happy self ☺️❤️

That’s really good to know. I know certain times of the year invoke sadness and we find them difficult. Take care

Wow… this is so painful to read. I’m so sorry, Christine.
It feels trite after reading that to say that your poem was lovely.

It sounds like January is to you what October is to me. I am sorry for your losses. I don’t blame you for wanting to see the back of Janus! The moment is all we ever have, quite right.

Thank you Ingrid. That is so kind of you. We can’t help thinking this way. It is a coincidence but perhaps we shouldn’t’t let it rule our lives 😢

Ah I remember this rant from last year! LOL. January always seems to do a number on me. I’m doing my best to keep my head down this month and not cause any waves. Maybe then Janus will leave me alone! I do hope you have a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year. Thanks for stopping by ☺️💕
