Dancing with the Devil
a sadness envelops me
whenever I reminisce
beautiful memories
of far off places
promises made
and gifts given
wishes coming true
but cruelly snatched away
in a broken heartbeat
happiness turned to tears
at the snap of wicked fingers
because he could
I cry because
I know now
I was dancing with the devil

Ever-changing
Late afternoon clouds
tinged with
golden threads
of hidden sun
Silhouettes of
Whooping Cranes taking flight
Shadows elongated
into distorted shapes
Peace found in
images and sounds
Song Lyric Sunday
Welcome to another Song Lyric Sunday. This week Jim Adams, our host, has asked us to choose a song that makes us think about life. I didn’t think too hard about this and went straight to my favorite musician, Van Morrison. His songs are always full of meaning and tell a story. I went straightContinue reading “Song Lyric Sunday”

Haiku For Healing
Being unafraid to reflect on a painful past can promote healing.
Song Lyric Sunday
The song Blue Moon has a history that few people are aware of. It was long known to be written by the famous Rogers and Hart team. However a daughter claimed that it was her father, a son of Polish immigrants, who wrote the song in 1931.
Emotional Bonds
Emotional bonds can change over time and in some cases can become to feel like chains around ankles, as if a prisoner in a relationship. Here the writer describes poetically a situation where love turned into ownership with one partner voiding the other relegating them into the shadows.
Lost Souls
Lost at Sea
Only the sea
could match the anger
Only wind could
howl with more clangor
Here no one listens
and there’s no one to call
An unheard scream
goes where dead words fall
In the furor of crashing waves
Song Lyric Sunday
Holding Back The Years by British Band Simply Red. To me it is a somewhat haunting song about the writer’s upbringing in a broken home and well, yes, that resonated with me.
The use of the Latin Pater (Father) and Mater (Mother) in the lyrics helps the reader/listener pay attention to the story behind the song.
