Chameleon

Chameleon

A chameleon
changing colors
at whim
Playing both sides
of the fence
Pleasing no one
Wounding everyone
It was a sin

Did you really want
to hurt us all?
Those who cared?
Use us and abuse us
To your own end
Perhaps you were oblivious
and maybe, just maybe
Plain scared?

Your true colors
Spanned the rainbow
but were hidden from view
Thinking we would
never understand
Concealing who
you really were, and
never knowing the real you

'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me'

Thanks Jim for the great reminder of Boy George and Culture Club.
I used Karma Chameleon as inspiration for this poem

Haunted

She wandered
the castle’s battlements
every evening
Flaxen hair pulled back
Tied like a barley stalk
Haunted and haunting
searching endlessly
for the love
forever lost to her

From across the water
she could be seen
as the sun left
its pale, yellow light
to the grayness of dusk
The lady in white
A lost soul
searching endlessly
for poetic justice

Harnessing Emotions

Harnessing Emotions

Appreciating
that solitary moment
when quietness encircles
your body
like a warm blanket
of comfort
A feeling of peace
and tranquility
to soothe
the weary soul

Kindness
Gentleness
Patience
Peace
Living in harmony
In an ephemeral
existence
inside your being
and taunted by
desires and emotions

With clarity of mind
the fruits of the spirit
stare back, challenging
Wild feelings alive
yet to be harnessed
Self-control and mastery
necessary
without which
all others
will be swept away

One Liner Wednesday

Ah, my favorite day of the week thanks to Linda G Hill’s One Liner Wednesday. Time to dig up another funny to get us through Hump Day.

Have a great Wednesday and keep smiling!

Papa Why?

Papa Why?

Papa why?
Why did you marry mama
and not stay true?
Your fighting
scarred me
for life and
distorted my view

'Please tell mama this'
and her reply would be
'Please tell papa that'
I was good for
both of you
Used as a conduit
for your ugly chat

You, my hero
would get the moon
for me
That was your promise
But you forgot that
when you chose
to be free

So in this, my life
that you never knew
I hitched to many a wagon
My choices calculated
They were replicas of you
I’d flow from one to another
and each time I’d slay the dragon

A Wrinkle in Time

A Wrinkle in Time

Faded memories
but a place
frequented often
A wrinkle in time
soothes the pang
of guilt
and pain softens

A setting bucolic
dreamy and romantic
Love had flourished
One had roared
in like a lion
and the other
felt nourished

And so it was
One sided love
His, fervent
and passionate
Hers, apathetic
ambivalent,
mostly absent

Disinterest had
driven him away
and her heart broke
She let him slip
through her fingers
thinking only of herself
Another word never spoke

Song Lyric Sunday

Song Lyric Sunday is hosted by Jim Adams tirelessly every week and we are so grateful to have him steer this ship. He continues to share his great knowledge of music and give us inspiration well in advance of the challenges.

Today we have been prompted by Chinese Zodiac signs. Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. A couple of great Rolling Stones songs jumped out at me and I’m sure I will see them shared today. I went with “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” by K. T. Tunstall. I really like this song and performer. Hope you enjoy it too.

According to Wikipedia, “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” is a song by Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall and is featured on her debut album, Eye to the Telescope. It was released on 21 February 2005 as the lead single from the album, charting at No. 28 in the UK Singles Chart (see 2005 in British music). It is one of many songs that reuses the famous Bo Diddley beat from the influential 1955 song of his own name.

The song is a playable track in the music video games Band Hero and Dancing with the Stars: We Dance!

Lyrics
Black Horse and a Cherry Tree
K.T. Tunstall

Two, three, four
Well, my heart knows me better than I know myself
So I'm gonna let it do all the talking
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)
I came across a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)

I fell in fear upon my back
I said don't look back, just keep on walking
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)
When the big black horse that looked this way
Said, hey lady, will you marry me?
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)

But I said no, no, no, no, no, no
I said, no, no, you're not the one for me
No, no, no, no, no, no
I said, no, no, you're not the one for me

And my heart had a problem in the early hours
So it stopped it dead for a beat or two
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)
But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done that
And it won't forgive me after all these years
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)

So I sent her to a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)
Now it won't come back 'cause it's oh-so-happy
And now I've got a hole for the world to see
(Woo, hoo, woo, hoo)

But it said no, no, no, no, no, no
I said, no, no, you're not the one for me
No, no, no, no, no, no
Said, no, no, you're not the one for me

Said, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
You're not the one for me
Said, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
You're not the one for me

Big black horse and a cherry tree
I can't quite get there 'cause they've all forsaken me
Big black horse and a cherry tree
I can't quite get there 'cause my heart forsaken me

Underbelly

Underbelly

A slice of moon
veiled so slightly
by a smoky cloud
Air so thick
it could be chewed
Voices carried loud

The night sultry
Perspiration beading
on heat weary brows
A distant dog barking
disturbing an old man’s
intermittent drowse

Car horns honk
Music of the night
Broken glass gleamed
Garbage plunked
unceremoniously
and someone screamed

Back alley sex
Writhing in
gratuitous ecstasy
Money exchanged
No more than
a sick fantasy

Alone in the darkness
oblivious to it all
A junkie finds a vein
Sirens cutting silence
Purposeful, speeding
Anther body slain

The distorted face
of a city breathing fire
Scorching, charring
Fanning the flames
Of society’s underbelly
The flip side jarring

Elusive

Elusive

To capture that moment again
grasping at shadows
touching the sky
Elusive
As wind in the willows
Not seen
but knowing its presence

To replicate
impossible
It does confuse
As if a dream
Imagination wild
Doubting the truth
Yet you know

It was felt
Honor and accept
for it will rebel
Live in gratitude
that you were graced
for that precious instant
with an indelible memory
