Song Lyric Sunday – Love The Way You Lie

This week’s Song Lyric Sunday from Jim Adams has prompted us with Hurt/Pain/Agony/Suffer. I have chosen ‘Love The way You Lie’ by Eminem, featuring Rhianna. It’s full of pain and hurt. The collaboration of Eminem and Rihanna is heavily influenced by their past experiences in difficult relationships with their respective ex-lovers Kimberly Scott and Chris Brown.

I hope you enjoy it! Have a great Sunday!

“Love The Way You Lie”
(feat. Rihanna)

[Rihanna:]
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
Well, that’s alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
Well, that’s alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

[Eminem:]
I can’t tell you what it really is
I can only tell you what it feels like
And right now, it’s a steel knife in my windpipe
I can’t breathe but I still fight while I can fight
As long as the wrong feels right it’s like I’m in flight
High off her love, drunk from her hate
It’s like I’m huffing paint and I love her the more I suffer, I suffocate
And right before I’m about to drown, she resuscitates me
She fucking hates me and I love it
“Wait! Where you going?”
“I’m leaving you!”
“No you ain’t. Come back”
We’re running right back
Here we go again
It’s so insane ’cause when it’s going good, it’s going great
I’m Superman with the wind at his back, she’s Lois Lane
But when it’s bad it’s awful, I feel so ashamed I snap
“Who’s that dude?”
“I don’t even know his name”
I laid hands on her, I’ll never stoop so low again
I guess I don’t know my own strength

[Rihanna:]
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
Well, that’s alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
Well, that’s alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

[Eminem:]
You ever love somebody so much you can barely breathe when you’re with ’em
You meet and neither one of you even know what hit ’em
Got that warm fuzzy feeling
Yeah, them chills used to get ’em
Now you’re getting fucking sick of looking at ’em
You swore you’d never hit ’em; never do nothing to hurt ’em
Now you’re in each other’s face spewing venom in your words when you spit them
You push, pull each other’s hair, scratch, claw, bit ’em
Throw ’em down, pin ’em
So lost in the moments when you’re in them
It’s the rage that took over
It controls you both
So they say it’s best to go your separate ways
Guess that they don’t know you ’cause today that was yesterday
Yesterday is over, it’s a different day
Sound like broken records playing over but you promised her
Next time you’d show restraint
You don’t get another chance
Life is no Nintendo game
But you lied again
Now you get to watch her leave out the window
Guess that’s why they call it window pane

[Rihanna:]
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
Well, that’s alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
Well, that’s alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

[Eminem:]
Now I know we said things, did things that we didn’t mean
And we fall back into the same patterns, same routines
But your temper’s just as bad as mine is
You’re the same as me
When it comes to love you’re just as blinded
Baby, please come back
It wasn’t you, baby it was me
Maybe our relationship isn’t as crazy as it seems
Maybe that’s what happens when a tornado meets a volcano
All I know is I love you too much to walk away though
Come inside, pick up your bags off the sidewalk
Don’t you hear sincerity in my voice when I talk
Told you this is my fault
Look me in the eyeball
Next time I’m pissed, I’ll aim my fist at the drywall
Next time? There won’t be no next time!
I apologize even though I know it’s lies
I’m tired of the games I just want her back
I know I’m a liar
If she ever tries to fucking leave again
I’mma tie her to the bed and set this house on fire
I’m just gonna

[Rihanna:]
Just gonna stand there and watch me burn
Well, that’s alright because I like the way it hurts
Just gonna stand there and hear me cry
Well, that’s alright because I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie
I love the way you lie

A Poem for a Child

A Poem for a Child

If the moon did ever
fall from the sky
or the sun remained
hidden from view

I would still love you
as sure as your eyes are blue

If the stars
disappeared one night
never to return
Or the oceans dried up

I would still love you
my little buttercup

If the trees caught fire
or the flowers dropped
all their petals and lay
dying in the dirt

I would still love you
More than ice cream dessert

If the birds
ever stopped flying
and the animals
one day began to sing

I would still love you
More than anything

If the sand
suddenly melted
Or the rain
fell sideways one day

I would still love you
Come what may

If I battled an army
for your sheer delight
Or stopped a bullet
at the speed of light

I would still love you
You are my one delight

If I fought a tiger
Or stepped in front of a train
It would be for you
My precious child

I will love you forever
I am completely beguiled

Devil Incarnate

Devil Incarnate

He ordered
the finest whisky
as he sat at the bar
and buried his head
The time had come
It would be a long night
Looming
He considered in dread

His clothes were ill fitting
They had seen better days
He looked disheveled
he knew, but couldn’t care
His thoughts on his purpose
As he nursed his drink
Focused
Avoiding the glare

Nine fifteen, his mark entered
the noisy bar
Full of swagger
and arrogance
He knew it was him
There was no question
Relaxed
He ignored the dissonance

Finding a seam in the throng
he worked his way through
Sliding onto the bench
next to his target
Pressing a gun
into the man’s side
he fired
Killing the devil incarnate

Monochrome – Poem of the Month – May 2019

Monochrome

Light filtering through
the gauze-like sky
Silvery white
against the black of trees
The water calm
on the surface of the lake
Mist clearing too slowly
in the cool of the breeze

The drilling of an early
morning woodpecker
In the distance
was the only sound
Surroundings reflective
of what is most times bleak
A monochrome life
where happiness drowned

Living in grey tones
of black mixed with white
No clear definition
or so it seems
Waiting in shadows
where the sun never shines
No smiling faces
Or technicolor dreams

Is it safer here?
Where regret
Does not call
And one just exists
Does the barometric pressure
Suppress all hope
Suffocating wishes
In some ironic twist?

Closeted in darkness
Innocuous to influences
of disappointment
Where pain cannot reach
Will that light under a bushel
Ever burn so bright?
Lighting the way
To an inevitable breach

One Liner Wednesday

It’s Wednesday again and I wanted to share another cartoon with you. The first thing I like to do in the morning is to catch up with the news, like many of you, and this one cracked me up. Hope you enjoy it and have a great day!

National Poetry Writing Month
Day 30 - NaPoWriMo

And last but not least, now for our final prompt for this year!
I’d like you to try your hand at a minimalist poem. What’s that?
Well, a poem that is quite short, and that doesn’t really try to
tell a story, but to quickly and simply capture an image or
emotion. Haiku are probably the most familiar and traditional
form of minimalist poetry, but there are plenty of very short
poems out there that do not use the haiku form. There’s even
an extreme style of minimalism in the form of one-word and
other “highly compressed” poems. You don’t have to go that far.

Teddy Bears Picnic – A Haibun

Tonight Gina is hosting Haibun Monday at D’Verse Poets. She has prompted us to write about a picnic memory. Growing up my family always used any day out in the country as picnic time. However, my very own favorite one was a Teddy Bears Picnic that I would have at home with my favorite teddies. We would sit on a blanket on the floor together and I would be ‘mother’ and serve them tea, biscuits and cake.

A perfect picnic
On the red tartan blanket
Just Teddies and me

When my mother wanted me to nap she would play an old record called the Teddy Bears’ Picnic and I found it on YouTube so you can listen here. It is quite old from 1932. Someone out there might remember it too!

The Clearing

The Clearing

The sound of hooves on gravel
now in the distant past
The ground underfoot became soft
as she reached the clearing at last

Shelter from the noon day sun
was a welcome retreat
She nimbly dismounted her horse
Content to be out of the heat

It was not as she remembered
The foliage thicker, outstretched
She searched for the oak tree
Where their initials were etched

The old watering trough
where they used to meet
Now hardly visible
and covered in mossy peat

Something always drew her to this place
Why had she come here this day?
Memories relived but soon forgotten
She mounted and rode away

Poetry In Motion

Poetry In Motion

In this warped and crazy world
where the peculiar reign supreme
I lose myself in words
to live in my chosen daydream

In a bucolic existence
writing poetry and prose
Stories of escape and freedom
allow me to transpose

Away from the insanity
of a world gone haywire
Seeking tranquility
My writings do inspire

Transported to a place
of pastoral idyll
where stanzas evolve
into poetry unbridled

A waterfall of thoughts
Flowing freely from the pen
A wordsmith can choose
To be lost time and again

And now for our daily (optional) prompt. As you may have
guessed, today I’d like to challenge you to try your hand at
a meta-poem of your own. If you’re having trouble coming
up with a poem about poetry, and would like to take a look
at a few examples, you might check out the Wallace Stevens
and Harryette Mullens poems featured in the article about

Song Lyric Sunday

This week Jim Adams has prompted us with Boogie/Rock/Rolling Stone for Song Lyric Sunday. Can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with! I have a feeling a lot of old favorites will be shared.

Here is my pick from my favorite band from the 70s – We Will Rock You by Queen. I love this song, almost as much as We Are The Champions, especially at a football game!

It was written by Queen guitarist Brian May and was recorded in 1977. This video shows Freddie Mercury as the wild and gifted entertainer that he was. RIP.

Lyrics
We Will Rock You
Queen

Buddy, you're a boy, make a big noise
Playing in the street, gonna be a big man someday
You got mud on your face, you big disgrace
Kicking your can all over the place, singin'’

We will, we will rock you
We will, we will rock you

Buddy, you're a young man, hard man
Shouting in the street, gonna take on the world someday
You got blood on your face, you big disgrace
Waving your banner all over the place

We will, we will rock you, sing it!
We will, we will rock you, yeah

Buddy, you're an old man, poor man
Pleading with your eyes, gonna get you some peace someday
You got mud on your face, big disgrace
Somebody better put you back into your place, do it!

We will, we will rock you, yeah, yeah, come on
We will, we will rock you, alright, louder!
We will, we will rock you, one more time
We will, we will rock you
Yeah
