Battle For Peace

Battle for Peace

With each rant from you

I shrink evermore

I bow to the wished-for silence

That I may spin no more

My heart does surge

in these moments of madness

Please turn another page

So I might forget this sadness

Trail

Trail

As we trudge life’s treacherous trail

That might be going nowhere

With you as my companion

We might just end up somewhere

For each blind leap of faith

I value our shared camaraderie

In your friendship I trust

It was never mandatory

When you are tired

I will take the lead

And carry you

If there is ever a need

Footsteps side by side

Shoulder to shoulder resilience

Leaning on each other

Impossible to outshine brilliance

One Liner Wednesday

Good Morning!  Here is another funny Larson cartoon to share with you.

In response to Linda G Hill’s One Liner Wednesday

The Fire Within

The Fire Within

An electric shock
Caused my body to quiver
His touch had made me shiver

An Involuntary reaction
To this unplanned meeting
A coincidence worth repeating

The fire began to burn within me
Hoping it was in him too
I was feeling quite the shrew

Igniting each other’s flame
Was it the start of something special
Or could he turn out to be the devil

We won’t know unless we perform
The traditional mating dance
Oh please just let me have a chance

Reason

Reason

Her mind full of dread
She had taken the walk
to clear her head
No more cheap talk
It was the reason she fled

The route had taken her
to a place unrecognized
She was now unsure
and feeling polarized
What was the lure

The wicked chill of the night
Did little to clear her thoughts
The dismal shroud of fright
Still tying her in knots
She was feeling the vicious bite

Taking leave to find her grace
And reach some reason
Lost in time and place
She exorcised the demon
Gone without a trace

Waiting – A Haibun

We all wait for something every day.  Whether it’s the coffee brewing or standing in line at the grocery store.  It’s a way of life, and to me, it is not a big deal, but many can’t abide waiting.

I have plenty of patience and never more so than when I was pregnant.  The wait of nine months was an incredible journey of learning!  Each trimester having its own special identity and feeling. Then at the end is priceless and precious gift!

Homesick

Homesick

I feel like a fish out of water
On days such as this
One foot on either side of the ocean
To say I’m never homesick would be remiss

I’ve spent half my life there
And the other half here
Yet I still miss so much
Of things that are dear

The best of both worlds
I’m lucky to experience
Seeing both sides of the coin
Teaching me acceptance

I live in the land of opportunity
Regrettably that is not true today
A government full of hatred
Wishing to change the way

The lines of the world are blurring
It is not much better from where I have come
It is now me before you, get back in line
How sad and selfish we have become

Madness

Madness

The plastic smile
will do for today
No one will notice
I need to defray
I am gagged
from speaking
it is my choice
to stop the shrieking

A tumultuous few days
just starting to heal
then you pick up again
and I start to reel
I need silence
and a time to think
or else my heart
will surely sink

Into oblivion
Where I will stay
drowning in the flood
of your verbal fray
Until that moment
of exquisite madness
when I will surely die
of this terminal sadness

Song Lyric Sunday

This week’s prompt is “First” from Helen Vahdati’s Song Lyric Sunday

I choose “The First Tine Ever I Saw Your Face”  by Roberta Flack.  According to Song Facts, this is when and why this song was written.

“Folk singer Ewan MacColl wrote this in 1957 for his lover Peggy Seeger. She was in a play and phoned him for suggestions on a song for a romantic scene. MacColl wrote this on the spot in less than an hour, playing it over the phone for his wife to use in her play. “We weren’t really getting along at the time,” Peggy Seeger recalled to Mojo magazine of the romantic epic in a 2015 interview. “After all, he was married to someone else then.”

MacColl was married to his second wife, Jean Newlove at the time. He left her for Peggy Seeger and the pair eventually tied the knot in 1977.”

Enjoy your Sunday!

Song Lyrics

The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
And the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave
To the dark and the endless skies

The first time ever I kissed your mouth
I felt the earth move in my hand
Like the trembling heart of a captive bird
That was there at my command my love

And the first time ever I lay with you
I felt your heart so close to mine
And I knew our joy would fill the earth
And last till the end of time my love

The first time ever I saw your face
Your face, your face

Blindside

Blindside

I wasn’t ready for what happened
Blindsided by your volcanic eruption
Spewing your discontent
Leaving me without an option
Again, I missed the trigger
You pulled it when I was unaware
I tried to salvage to no avail
Leaving the evening in disrepair

In a restaurant of all places
With family and friends present
Why did you come with such attitude?
Making the evening unpleasant
I should have known better
I fell into the same trap
My eyes out on the horizon
While my life turns to crap

I can only imagine
what everyone was thinking
He is such a piece of work
It’s no wonder she’s drinking
My dinner I cannot now digest
Feeling sick on the inside
This will escalate at home
and I can no longer abide
