Song Lyric Sunday – Baby I Love Your Way

Jim Adams has prompted us this week with Desire, Lust, Romance and Passion for Song Lyric Sunday. I think ‘love’ figures in there somewhere so I have chosen an old Peter Frampton song. He wrote and recorded it in 1975 but I much prefer this reggae-style version by Big Mountain from 1994. I hope you enjoy it too!

Lyrics
Baby I Love Your Way
Big Mountain

Shadows grow so long before my eyes,
And they're moving across the page
Suddenly the day turns into night,
Far away, from the city

Don't Hesitate,
'Cause your love won't wait
Ooh baby I love your way,
I Wanna tell you I love your way,
I Wanna be with you night and day

Moon appears to shine, and light the sky,
With the help, of some fireflys
I Wonder how they have the power to shine, shine, shine,
I Can see them, under the pine

But Don't hesitate,
'cause your love won't wait
Ooh baby I love your way,
I Wanna tell you I love your way,
I Wanna be with you night and day

Well don't, don't hesitate,
'Cause your love, won't wait,
I Can see the sunset in your eyes,
Brown and grey, and blue besides
Clouds are stalking islands in the sun,
I wish I could buy one, out of season,

But don't hesitate,
'Cause your love won't wait,
Ooh baby I love your way,
I wanna tell you I love you way,
I Wanna be with you night and day
Ooh baby I love your way

Broken Promises

Broken Promises

Following every word of love spoken
Savoring each syllable and sentence
Little did I know my heart would be broken
and you would show no repentance

We lay in splendor of verdant grass
In the beauty of a pastoral idyll
My world to shatter like crystal glass
When in my head all things were bridal

Believing all the things you said
I let you take from me what was priceless
Am I such a fool so easily led?
Yes, and I find myself voiceless

Green

Green

Breathe in, breathe out
you’ll be okay
Keep walking forward

There is not much to say
It couldn’t have been
any more awkward

Yes, I am young
Inexperienced in love
and still quite green

But who could have known?
that he was a man with a wife
and she caused a terrible scene

She called me names
that I know I am not
while he stood there silent

Speechless and hurt
I was very afraid
she would get violent

He did nothing to help
Letting me take her barrage
He was the one to blame

I left in tears, my heart broken
He, a liar, a cheat, a seducer
Yet I am the one bearing shame

Replacement

Replacement

You are lonely you say, but you are with me
Settling for the status quo, you say, but you are with me

You are not where you want to be
Not alone, but not with me

Enamored with the thought of being with someone
But not with me

You had it once before, you said
But not with me

Is it a dream or a wish that you have?
But never of me

Maybe a desire for someone, anyone
But not for me

Am I a just a convenience? A replacement?
Sorry, that’s not me

I am not what you want
Because I am me

Grace at D'Verse Poets is supporting our Poetry Form Ghazal
which was hosted by Gay Cannon two weeks ago.
A Ghazal is a poem that is made up like an odd numbered
chain of couplets, where each couplet is an independent
poem. It should be natural to put a comma at the end of
the first line. The Ghazal has a refrain of one to three
words that repeat, and an inline rhyme that preceedes the
refrain. Lines 1 and 2, then every second line, has this
refrain and inline rhyme, and the last couplet should refer
to the authors pen-name…
The rhyming scheme is AA bA cA dA eA etc.

Tranquility

Tranquility

As the evening sun
takes its final breath
of the day
the dappled grey sky
edged in silver
lights the way

Silhouetted birds
flying high above their
disappearing shadows
Darkness falls
and the moon rises
over flowering meadows

Cool evening air
with a gentle wind
rustling the trees
Sounds of the night
calming and comforting
A natural tease

Softly the rain comes
dampening dried earth
Paying penance to the sun
By first morning light
needed nurture complete
and the work is done

Flowers kissed with dew
reaching up to the dawn
The world awakens
Birdsong fills the air
as animals graze
The cycle unshaken

Wherever You Will Go

Wherever You Will Go

My child
from long before I saw you
I loved you
we were contiguous
attached biologically
and therefore emotionally

We will always be connected
No matter where
on this earth we will be
I will feel your joy
and also, your pain
Your blood coursing in my veins

The one thing in my life
of which I am proud
giving life to you
So you could
spread your wings
and do amazing things

When I am gone
Who will light your shadows?
If I could, then I would
I’ll go wherever you will go
Way up high or down low
I’ll go wherever you will go

Gospel Isosceles is hosting D'Verse Poetics and has asked us
to share a song that has brought us to tears, and write a poem
about it. I have chosen a song called "Wherever You Will Go" by The Calling. It reminds me of my son when he was a teenager and how, as a parent, I wanted to protect him, always. I cry whenever I hear it. In the last stanza of my poem I have used some words from the song.
Below is the video. I hope you enjoy it.

One Liner Wednesday

Good Wednesday morning!

For this week’s One Liner Wednesday I found this funny for you. Have a great Hump Day!

Gypsy in her Soul

Gypsy in her Soul

Cool sand beckoned
at day’s end
Walking barefoot
along the shore
Much needed,
for her heart to mend

Breeze in her hair
Free as the birds
Thoughts released
up to the sky
Mind calming
No need for words

She paddled
In the watery pools
as Sandpipers chased
away from the flow
The beach in the fading light
twinkled like precious jewels

Walking off the pain
as darkness fell
The gypsy in her soul
reminded her once more
Time to move on
and these feelings will quell

Poetic Tag “Twas Not, Twas”

Fandango, from This, That and the Other has tagged me in a funny Poetic Tag originated by Rory, A Guy Called Bloke. He started another one of his “Not Just My Verse” poetry blog hops. He wrote the first stanza, then passed it on to Paula of Light Motifs II and she sent it on to Fandango and so on. Below is the poem so far.

It’s “Twas Not Twas!

So here’s how Rory started things off:

I am sure, well pretty sure NO, of course l am sure!
Twas not twas, twas not there before!
And yet, here l am looking upon it with widened eyes …
This thing that twasn’t, and yet now it twas a surprise!

Then Paula followed up with:

When I told my friends what had transpired,
They laughed and said I must be a liar,
For things like THAT surely are not real;
Then it came back and said let’s make a deal.

Then Fandango:

So it wants to make a deal?
Well that does have some appeal.
I asked it, “Whatsit all about?”
And that twas when it started to shout.

Here is my contribution:

Yes, whatsit all about Alfie?
Do you have bats in your belfry?
Was it this or was it that?
I know ‘twasn’t tit for tat

Okay. I’m going to pass the poetic baton to:

Kristian of Tales from the Mind of Kristian

Have fun with it Kristian 🙂
