Foul Frog – A True Story

Foul Frog – Quadrille

A frog in my mailbox
Every day I looked
Funny I thought
But never spooked

Once picking up mail
He was still in residence
Something wet on my hand
My negligence

Brown and slimy
Smelling as I walked away
Oh yuckety yuck
Disgusting bouquet!

Pound of Flesh

Pound of Flesh

Revenge was apparent
after she had been violated
He had taken what was hers
Her body abused, desecrated

There was an air of desperation
She wanted justice served
Eventually it came and
he got what he deserved

Finally what had been craved
Was now hers to feast
But that plump, pound of flesh
Was not as filling, not in the least

She could not fathom why
Retribution was not hers
Hibernation became routine
The outside world now a blur

White Lady of Kinsale – Poem of the Month – November 2018

White Lady of Kinsale

The moon had risen in the black sky
Giving an ethereal luminescence
Silver shimmering ripples on the lake
Magical in its quivering quintessence

The place of myths and legends
Mystery suspended in the cool night air
A white vision stands at water’s edge
A commanding presence with her long hair

The lady of the lake a mourning bride
of a soldier murdered by his men
Distraught she threw herself to her death
Forever trapped to roam over and again

Wandering the walls of the Charles Fort
A familiar sight of agonized plight
Grief-stricken for her dead groom
She walks the darkened streets at night

Her trapped spirit  forever nocturnal
Appearing to those who can see
The lady of the lake is still mourning
Her loss forever burned in history

Song Lyric Sunday – Oct. 7 – FIND

The week’s Song Lyric Sunday Prompt is “Find/Found”

There are so many good ones to choose from but this week I picked this old favorite by Lou Rawls.  I just love his voice!

In response to Helen Vahdati’s Song Lyric Sunday

You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine
Lou Rawls
You’ll never find, as long as you live
Someone who loves you tender like I do
You’ll never find, no matter where you search
Someone who cares about you the way I do
Whoa, I’m not braggin’ on myself, baby
But I’m the one who loves you
And there’s no one else! No one else!
You’ll never find, it’ll take the end of all time
Someone to understand you like I do
You’ll never find the rhythm, the rhyme
All the magic we shared, just us two
Whoa, I’m not tryin’ to make you stay, baby
But I know some how, some day, some way
You are (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
You’re gonna miss my lovin’ (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
You’re gonna miss my lovin’ (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
You’re gonna miss, you’re gonna miss my lo-o-ove
Late in the midnight hour, baby (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
When it’s cold outside (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
You’re gonna miss, you’re gonna miss my lo-o-ove
You’ll never find another love like mine
Someone who needs you like I do
You’ll never see what you’ve found in me
You’ll keep searching and searching your whole life through
Whoa, I don’t wish you no bad luck, baby
But there’s no ifs and buts or maybes
You’re gonna miss my lovin’ (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
I know you’re gonna my lovin’ (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
You’re gonna miss, you’re gonna miss my lo-o-ove
Whoa, oh, oh, oh, oh (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
Late in the midnight hour, baby (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
When it gets real cold outside (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
I know, I know that you are gonna miss my lo-o-ove
Let me tell you that you’re gonna miss my lovin’
Yes you will, baby (you’re gonna miss my lovin’)
When I’m long gone
I know, I know, I know that you are gonna miss

Perdition

Perdition

Love is an illusion
Conquering all
In the fiery furnace
Burning you with desire
It will you enthrall

Deciduous horns
Giving way to new growth
Lost In a burbled frenzy
You promise the devil
Your sworn oath

Cards in play
Could be your downfall
Queen of Diamonds
Greed and avarice
Disguised as jovial

Change inevitable
Never say never
Taking the road to Perdition
and condemnation
Before being lost forever

Eyes Wide Open – Week 13

Thank goodness the temperature dropped below the 90 degree mark this week, which made running more of a pleasure than a chore!  I managed to catch a few interesting things on my iPhone and hope you enjoy them. They inspired me and perhaps they will do the same for you.

Have a great Saturday!

This sculpture is outside the Museum of Whimsy.  Great fun inside!

Some Ibis joined me at a favorite resting spot by the water

This butterfly was quite happy sitting on this horse statue

Bananas will soon be ripe for the picking!

Pretty day at the marina

Free Key Limes!  Yeah!

Faraway

Faraway

Faraway in my dreams
You wait for me here
We kiss in sunlight
and then you disappear

You come and go
whenever I wish
Never staying long
Swimming away like a fish

Playfully you are the wind
Blowing up my dress
Water splashing me
Gently like a caress

Sometimes I hide
And you have to go seek
Running down the beach
While I admire your physique

My fantasy is
one day you’ll stay
Then you’ll be mine forever
and no longer faraway

Today your behavior is decided

The nation watching is divided

You’ve described your actions as silly

Boyhood pranks leaving us chilly

Your true colors shined brightly through

The thin veneer that is you

We saw you for what you are

A privileged bully hiding behind the bar

We’ve met many like you over the years

Arrogance worn as a right, bringing tears

We do not see you as enigmatic

To us you appear more manic

A privileged man full of anger

So quick to unleash his langor

The available position you will not be denied

You shouted, screamed and even cried

We watched your accuser so strong and credible

Your reaction contrived and unbelievable

The country today pays attention

Your position is in undeniable contention

A decision to come not just for you

But fifty years more of this preview

Women of this country should be scared

A judge deplete of empathy might just be declared

Balancing Act

Balancing Act

Walking a tightrope

Above the minefields

of your existence

I throw caution to the wind

Up here I may fall

A path of least resistance

Melancholy thoughts

And depressing actions

Separate us by degrees

Refusing to let go

Clinging to air

I’m an artist of trapeze

Remaining in limbo

With no safety net

Patiently waiting

Self-indulgent proclivities

Keep us apart but

My danger liberating

Different Animals

Different Animals

Anticipating your response
Of what will surely come
I brace for the onslaught
My nerves tightening
As I become more fraught

Vacillating the point
Until we were drained
Back and forth and back again
Wishing it would end
But the winner does not yet reign

Storming off in anger
I see you under the lamppost
Smoking a cigarette
Exhausted from the argument
I prefer solitude feeling a threat

After an abundance of angst
You come back in the house
Our boiling has lowered to a simmer
Your eyes find mine
and hope is now a glimmer
